A two-member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a meeting with a delegation of the Washington-based International Republican Institute (IRI) on 8th September, Sunday at a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka. IRI's delegation included Amitabh Ghosh, senior program manager of Bangladesh office, Brian R. Bron, resident program director of Malaysia office, and Acting Resident Program Director of Bangladesh Office Joshua Rosenboom whereas Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by Central Executive Council Member and party’s Central Publicity and Media Department Secretary Mr. Matiur Rahman Akanda and Central Working Council Member Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar.
In this meeting, Bangladesh's democracy, democratic values and development and development of democracy were discussed.
The delegation of IRI said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a strong party. Jamaat-e-Islami is working for establishing meaningful democracy in Bangladesh. They pointed out that Jamaat-e-Islami's positive role in various democratic movements in Bangladesh and simultaneously the constructive role of Jamaat-e-Islami's elected representatives in the national parliament are commendable.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. Both delegations promised to work together in future for the improvement of democracy and also for securing the development of the democratic institutions in Bangladesh.
