Central Majlish-e- Shura expresses concern over excessive price hike of the essentials

The government has no responsibility and obligations as they are not an elected regime

A meeting of the central Majlish-e-Shura of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with Party’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in the chair. The meeting expressed deep concern over the excessive price hikes of the commodities. The Shura placed the following proposals to curb the price hike:

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is observing with great concern that during the tenure of this 14-year-long government, price hikes have reached into a catastrophic level. Some products’ price has increased 4/5 times within a couple of months. The government had primarily promised to provide rice at 10 takas per kilogram and fertilizer free of cost. But that rice is 70 taka per kilogram. Free fertilizer is far away, the farmers are not able to use fertilizers on the farming land for increasing price rates. Consequently, crop production is being hampered too.

The government earlier claimed to generate power. But practically the nation is suffering from power shortages. Because of the power crisis, an anarchic situation has been created in the agriculture, industries, and garment sectors. Load shedding on one hand has caused severe civil suffering, while on the other it has hampered production massively. The government could not take any effective initiative to produce more power. In the name of quick rental power plans, thousands of crores of taka have been looted.

The government has not taken any steps to recover the economy during post covid period. According to the statistics of various research organizations, more than 3 crore people have gone down the poverty line. The government could not create any space for job employment. Essential’s prices have increased widely due to corruption, money laundering, and market syndicating. By increasing the price of utilities, the government has increased huge suffering for the people.

Central Majlish-e-Shura thinks these crises have been created as the incumbent government is not elected. And this is why; they have no responsibilities and obligations to the people. Rather the government is busy in repressing the opposition forces. Under the circumstances, the Majlish-e-Shura urged to bring the price of essential commodities within the common’s reach in a bid to lessen the mass suffering.
