Discussion and prayer program held commemorating the martyrs of 28th October

Unite the nation; the downfall of the vested forces is inevitable- Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said a suffocating situation is prevailing nationwide. All rights of the people have been seized away. In the name of justice, people are overburdened with injustice. People have no democratic rights or rights to speak. The nation is totally bankrupt. The tragedy of 28th October has been created to bring this political stalemate. Addressing the government, Jamaat Ameer said, power does not belong to anyone forever. Your time is over. Better for you to leave office without making further harm to the nation. Our fellow brothers have sacrificed their lives on 28th October without making any compromise. Our organization will not bow down to anyone. Let us unite the nation, the downfall and destruction of the vested forces are inevitable.

Jamaat Ameer said this while addressing a discussion and prayer program commemorating the martyrs of the 28th October 2006 tragedy in an auditorium of the capital. Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka city south arranged the program. Central Executive committee member and Dhaka city south Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul presided over the program which was hosted by city Secretary and party’s working committee member Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud. Jamaat’s Central executive committee member and Assistant Secretary General AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Maulana Abdul Halim, and the party’s publicity affairs secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda spoke on the occasion as the special guests.

On behalf of the martyr’s family, Shaheed Hafez Golam Kibria Shipon’s father Tajul Islam, and Shaheed Saifullah Mohammad Masum’s father Mahtab Uddin Ahmed addressed the program. The program was also addressed by the party’s central working committee member and Dhaka city south Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Monjurul Islam Bhuiyan, Abdus Sabur Fakir, city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Advocate Dr. Md. Helal Uddin, Delwar Hossain, and Professor Mokarram Hossain Khan.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said we saw the emergence of Bangladesh and the post-independence scenario of Bangladesh. Whoever had come to the power with the promise of issuing rights to the people, ultimately they seized the rights aggressively. They destructed the state structure by launching Rakhi Bahini and Bakshal. They murdered 10 thousand freedom fighters and 32 thousand of youths became the victim of extra-judicial murders. This is a stigmatic part of our history. No one has the right to murder another without judicial process. Media and newspapers are the good conscious of the people. But the then government shut down all newspapers except 4 ones. These newspapers had no scope to publish any news without the consent of the government.

Jamaat Ameer said they did not create mayhem on 28th October just to murder some activists of Jamaat and Chhatrashibir. Rather, they wanted to kill the top brasses of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir in order to instill panic and fear in the nation. They tried to destroy these organizations as they are well-informed that these organizations are not ready to compromise with evil forces. But their attempts did not succeed. The people of the country are inclined to see dreams in these two organizations.

Jamaat Ameer said, the tragedy of 28th October is painful for the nation, particularly for Jamaat-e-Islami, but reversely it is a matter of pride for the victim families. Being failed to perish the leaders and organizational body of Jamaat-e-Islami, they chose the wrong way. They killed our leaders in connection with some false cases and inconsistent trial procedures. The loopholes in the trial process become evident and all global forums are aware of it. We are waiting for the days when all injustices will be eradicated and justice will be ensured. Despite the unprecedented misdeeds, this government wants to stay in power. If they continue to do so, they have to step down shamefully.

Hamidur Rahman Azad said, prior to the 28th October massacre, the then leader of the opposition urged the partymen to come and cordon off the Bangabhaban with leathal weapons and sticks and other domestic weapons. Such instruction was illegal and unlawful. As per her directives, the partymen created that anarchy on that day. This case was instructed to be re-investigated in 2007. But coming to the power, Awami League withdrew the case. Actually, Awami League is the real patron of murder and initiator of the culture of impunity.

Abdul Halim said, 28th October is a tragic day. 14 leaders and activists had been murdered on that day. We will take its revenge by upholding the Islamic tasks. They want to subdue us through oppression and imprisonment. But we were not afraid of threats and we are making a vow that we will sacrifice our lives but will not surrender before any evil forces.

Matiur Rahman Akanda said that 28th October was a fight between the vested forces and the Islamic forces. Ethics and morality became victorious in that war. But people lost their rights on that day. They have been crying since that day seeking their position, dignity, and rights. No person is available, who does not want to get rid of this misrule. This is the victory of 28th October.

Nurul Islam Bulbul said the main target of 28th October was to murder Jamaat leaders. But their target was not fulfilled. As a consequence of the incident, Bangladesh has lost its democratic legacy. The government has ablished the caretaker government system to stay in power for long time. Though, some of our brothers have sacrificed their lives. But practically, based on their sacrifice, our position has been strengthened. It has been proved that whatsoever conspiracy is made against Bangladesh and its people, Jamaat and Chhatrashibir will not let it happen. He urged the countrymen to remain united for turning this nation into a welfare state
