Central working committee expresses concern over the price hike of the essentials

A meeting of the central working committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held on 23rd July 2022 with party’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in the chair. The meeting adopted the following proposal expressing deep concern over the severe public suffering due to abnormal price hikes of the essentials.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central working committee is observing with deep concern that, the general people are experiencing unbearable suffering due to abnormal price hikes of the essentials. The price has been increasing on regular basis for the last couple of months. Most of the necessary items have gone already beyond people’s reach.

People’s suffering knows no bounds due to such a price hike. People of low income are suffering the most. Price spiral of daily usable items like rice, lentils, salt, oil, chili, onion, garlic, fishes, vegetables, sugar, and milk have disrupted public life.

Keeping pace with such a price spiral, house rent, transport fare, treatment costs, and academic expenses have increased abnormally as well. Service charges at the government and non-government levels have increased too. But people’s income did not increase accordingly and as such, it has brought a negative impact on people’s lives.

No decent market system has been developed in the last 14 years of the incumbent government. The authority has no control over the market. A syndicate that has been formed under the government’s backup is causing this price spiral. While the government has facilitated to hike in price hikes instead of reducing the mass crisis.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central committee is urging the government to curb the price hike and to bring it within people’s capacity.
