A Munshiganj-bound launch named Sabit Al Hasan, carrying over 50 passengers, capsized in the Shitalakkhya river near the third Shitalakkhya Bridge at Koylaghat of Syedpur area under Narayanganj district when it was hit by a "coaster tankerlast evening. 34 people including women, kids and aged have been killed in this accident. Today on 11 April 2021, at 9 in the morning, in an auditorium of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami arranged a program. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar met the victim families and provided financial assistances among them.

In the program, Professor Mia Golam Porwar said that the ideology of Prophet (peace be upon Him) was to assist people during calamities. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is trying to follow the same ideologies and as such we came here to help the victim families of the Shitalakkhya river launch capsize tragedy. Actually, it is the government’s obligation to operate such activities. But the government failed to do so. It is really pathetic and unfortunate for us.

He also stated that so far, 14 cargo staffs have been arrested in line with the accident and case has been filed against them. But cargo owner has been spared as he belongs to the ruling party. This incident clarifies that the incumbent government is not sincere to establish rule of law. I am praying for the deceased souls and praying to Allah to accept them as martyr. Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to provide financial assistances to the victims and also to bring the offenders to the justice.
