Secretary General urges government and the affluent sections to help the flood victims

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that, hundreds of thousands of people in several districts and Upazila of the Sylhet region has become waterlogged due to massive and sudden flow of water from the Indian hilly area. The local people are suffering miserably but so far no effective relief distributions are being observed in the areas. I am calling upon the government to boost up the relief operations in the flood affected zones. I am also urging the rich and affluent corners of the society to extend their hand of help and assistances to these flood victims.

He said this while visiting the flood affected area in Jokiganj Upazila of the Sylhet district. At that time, he distributed reliefs among the flood victims. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman distributed reliefs in Fultola, Maijkandi, Voron and Shoshokuri area of the Jokiganj Upazila under Sylhet district. Among others, Jamaat’s central working committee member and former MP Maulana Farid Uddin Chowdhury, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Sylhet north organizational district’s Ameer Maulana Anwar Hossain Khan, Secretary Maulana Islam Uddin, Jokiganj Upazila Jamaat Ameer Jalal Uddin and Upazila unit Secretary and Jokiganj Upazila council’s elected vice chairman Golam Robbani Chowdhury Jabed were present in these occasions.

Jamaat’s Secretary General stated that, the flood victims of greater Sylhet region are eagerly waiting for government’s cooperation. We hope the authority would undertake due measures to remove their miseries. Jamaat as a people-friendly party, always served the fellow countrymen in their out of seasons and by the will of Almighty Allah, the party will continue the same philanthropic trend in the days to come.
