Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Abdul Halim visited the storm-affected areas and mosques in Lalmonirhat district.
During the visit on April 30, District Jamaat Secretary and Jamaat's MP nominee for Lalmonirhat-2 constituency, Advocate Firoz Haider Lavlu, and Upazila and Union Jamaat leaders were present at that time.
Addressing the affected families, Maulana Abdul Halim said, “Standing by the side of the affected and suffering people is a fundamental duty, it is part of worship in Islam. Performing prayers and fasting is an obligatory duty. But if you run away during times of hardship, your duty of worship will not be fulfilled. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a party that wants to ensure equality, equity, and justice among people in this country by establishing the Islamic laws. Politics is for the people, not for their own earnings. Jamaat-e-Islami leaders spend their earnings for the people.”
Regarding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, he said, the Jamaat Ameer is aware of the Teesta Master Plan. Jamaat-e-Islami will make the best possible arrangements for the development of the people on the banks of the river Teesta.
He met the father of Jannati, a 6th grade student killed in the Bhotmari Union, and said that those involved in Jannati’s murder must be given maximum punishment. The Jamaat Ameer has already provided financial assistance to Jannati's family and assured them of their support.
District Jamaat Secretary and Lalmonirhat-2 MP candidate Ad Firoz Haider Lavlu said, "The people of this town love Islam. They are always with Jamaat-e-Islami. We are strongly demanding development on the banks of the Teesta river."
After visiting the affected areas and mosques, he visited the damaged dam of the Teesta. The affected family members said, "We and our families are under threat due to the solar panels built on the Teesta River. Our houses can collapse into the river at any time. We are strongly demanding on behalf of the local people to resolve this issue as soon as possible."
At that time, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim said, "We will not accept any development that harms the people."
Kaliganj Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Ruhul Amin, Assistant Secretary Advocate Jahangir Alam, Upazila Working Committee Maulana Moksuder Rahman and Abul Bashar Lavlu, Votmari Union Ameer Maulana Suruzzaman Ahmed, Madati Union Ameer Maulana Matiul Islam Khan and other upazila and union leaders of various departments were present. Prior to this, a responsible gathering was held at the Lalmonirhat District Jamaat Office at 7 am.
