Calling on the rail strike in view of the Bishwa Ijtema of Tablighi Jamaat, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar issued the following statement on January 28:-
"The Bishwa Ijtema is going to be held in Tongi on the banks of the Turag River from January 31st, Friday. A large number of Muslims from all over the country are set to participate in the Ijtema.
Rail communication has been closed since January 28th due to the strike of railway employees. Our sincere request to all those involved in the agitation to call off the strike for the sake of the devotees so that they can smoothly participate the Bishwa Ijtema of Tablighi Jamaat and resolve their just demands through discussions with the concerned authorities.
I hope all those involved in the strike will give utmost importance to this religious and humanitarian issue."
