1,200 unnamed students sued over Shahbagh demo; Mia Ghulam Parwar protests

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar has issued the following statement on 21st July, 2017 protesting the police’s indiscriminate assault and charge baton, hurling tear shells which wounded 15 students, off them one has lost his eyesight and as the subsequent event a police case that has been filed against 1200 students who were holding a protest and staged a demo in capital’s Shahbagh area demanding the announcement of their examination schedules from Dhaka University Vice Chancellor.

“The government has made a severe repression against agitating students of Seven Government College as police indiscriminately assaulted and attacked their protest demonstration. Such brutal actions from the government can never be accepted.

Police case against the agitating students is completely unjustifiable, illogical and unexpected. The students, teachers and the guardians are very shocked and aggrieved by the irresponsible acts of the government. I am urging the concerned authorities to accept the just demand of the students.

At the same time, I am calling upon the authority to release all the detained students, to withdraw the false cases and also to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured students.”
