Wednesday, 05 September 2012
Jamaat-e-Islami Acting Secretary General Dr Shafiqur Rahman has strongly condemned and protested the government’s decision to increase rail-ticket-fare by 50 percent, which is set for being effective from September 1, 2012.

In a statement on Monday, he urged the government to immediately cancel the irrational and anti-people decision.

The rail service is the lone transport for the country’s ultra-poor people, he said, adding that the people will be adversely affected by the government decision of suddenly increasing the rail-fare by 50 per cent.

Besides the government’s recent decision to increase power tariff rate by 35 percent, the new decision regarding rail-fare will add owes to the mass people, he apprehended.
When the transportation cost will go up, price of daily essential goods will obviously increase, jeopardize the people’s living standard, he added.

He reminded the government that the rail isn’t a commercial organization rather it is a service-oriented. So, the rail-ticket fares should be kept at the level of common people.

The Jamaat leader called upon the government to immediately come back from the decision of increasing the fare of rail-ticket.
