The acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-E-Islami Moulana Rafikul islam Khan has issued a statement today condemning the degrading picture published on the front page in the Daily Janakantha. The published picture clearly degrades Islam. The following is the statement:
“I strongly condemn the heinous and disgraceful attack on Islamic symbols by the Daily Janakantha. The daily published a graphic painted image of a dog with a human head that has a bearded face and that fashions an Islamic kufi (head cap). The picture has been published on the front page and within an image of the Shahbag gathering. This is a deliberate and reckless attack on Islam and Islamic symbols. Beard and kufi is a sunnah of our beloved prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). If someone insults this sunnah then it is actually insulting the Prophet of god (peace be upon him). My words are inadequate for condemning such audacity. The organizers of Shahbag gathering insulted the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by putting beard and kufi on dogs. The god fearing people of this country will not tolerate this deliberate insult.
These activities prove that the people at the Shahbag gathering are the enemies of Allah and his messenger (peace be upon him). The god fearing people of this country have no connection with them. It is the duty of all god loving people, scholars, and the people of this country to rise up in protest against them.
I call upon the god loving people of this country, the scholars, intellectuals, journalists, students-teachers, laborers, professionals and everyone to rise up in protest against the attack on our prophet (peace be upon him), his sunnah, and Islam.”
